Brainiac or The Eradicator?

Okay, so I know that even though he has never been mentioned on the show by name, everyone refers to the character of Milton Fine on Smallville as Brainiac. I just don't understand this at all.

EVERYTHING about him implies to me that he is the Eradicator. He even talks about "eradicating" humanity in one of the earlier episodes this season and that's just the kind of wordplay that they love to use on Smallville when using characters from the comics. (Sorry, I don't remember the exact line or episode name, but I remember the line distinctly, because I had been saying since the start that he was obviously the Eradicator).

I mean, Brainiac is GREEN for one thing, and he's from the planet Colu. Whereas the character on Smallville is described as an artificial lifeform from Krypton. That sure sounds like the Eradicator to me. The Eradicator is also often depicted in the comics as an energy-based life-form, only taking a human shape because it was suitable/needed at the time... again, that sounds like Smallville's Fine.

I know that the name Milton Fine is associated with one of Brainiac's origin stories from the post-Crisis comics, but... that seems to be the only thing that connects the Smallville Fine to the Brainiac name. Everything else about him just seems to me to scream Eradicator.

Does anyone else agree with me or am I on my own here?

well, the best way to enjoy smallville if you're a fan of the superman mythos is to accept that smallville has it's own continuity and it's own universe. borrowing from the mythos and creating its own universe. just like the movies have done. (myself, i'm just getting into the comics, but i've always been a fan of superman as an icon and on TV, movies, cartoons...etc.)

i think "brainiac" being an artificial lifeform from krypton is more of a reference to the brainiac of the superman animated series. if we wanted a more valid representation of brainiac (or the other villians or heroes he encounters for that matter), they wouldn't be showing up in smallville before he dons the big red S.

but the only reason why people refer to milton fine as "brainiac" is because it's what's listed in the episode descriptions, which i think is totally lame. they should just name who he is and leave it up for the veiwers to decide, giving the writers to name him the eradicator later if they wanted, which might've been a more better choice. (although i'm not all that familiar with the eradicator and his history.)

i think naming Fine's character brainiac in the show's description was a way to grab more superman fans to watch an episode of smallville. there are plenty of fans out there who hate the way the show screws up the superman continuity or mythos. (but then again, how many versions of superman are out there, including elseworlds and one shots, even after reboots and crises?) i used to hate smallville in its early years, but now i'm addicted, just to see him come closer and closer to becoming superman. (except i know at the very end of the show, i'll be disappointed when he doesn't wear the costume and he doesn't hook up with lois lane... but it's more curiosity in seeing how far they'll take their version of clark kent and how far into his adulthood before they axe the show.)
